About Student Services

Student Services is a unit within the university administration with about 55 associates. Student Services consists of six different areas of activity: Admissions Office, Degree Evaluation Office, International Office, Student Records Office, Student Health Service, and Student Support and Guidance Office.

Our mission statement is:
"With a student focused perspective and by providing good service, having the right skills and maintaining high quality, we create the best opportunities for the student's path through the university."

Our target groups are students and prospective students, units within the administration, and faculties and departments of the university. We also represent Umeå University in national networks and reference groups.

Our main areas of responsibility are:

  • Education administrative processes
  • System administration
  • Preventive student health service
  • Issuing degree certificates for higher education within all levels
  • Administration of exchange programmes
  • Reception of, and information to, international students
  • Administration of the courses and programmes offered in the joint admissions database for higher education in Sweden (NyA)
  • Organising housing for incoming exchange students
  • Coordination of study support for disabled students
  • Organising the national university aptitude test implementation in Västerbotten (Högskoleprovet)
  • Providing writing supervision and other study related support for students
  • To function as the university broad entry for questions about studies
  • Providing of general study guidance
  • Admission to basic and advanced level courses and programmes

We are also responsible for:

  • Secretariats for the Degree Board and the Admission Board

We also assist:

  • The university lawyer at harassment cases where the exposed person is a student
  • With consultative support for departments, administration units, students' unions and faculties
  • The Planning, Budget and Quality Office with basic data for statements of activities and annual reports 
  • With administrative support in the council for equal treatment (Likabehandlingsrådet)
  • The Information Office with basic data for marketing and student recruitment 
  • The University Management with statistics and preparation of other data for decision-making
  • The University Management with project manager/participants
  • The Ladok consortium with required skills
